The New York State Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 11:58 AM today in the south bound lanes of Interstate 87 in the Town of Clifton Park, NY.
The 3 vehicle accident involved a coach bus, a Porsche, and a panel type construction van. The deceased 64 year old female was a passenger in the Porsche vehicle which for unknown reason(s) at this time lost control as it was travelling in front of the bus, causing the chain reaction accident. The driver of that vehicle, a 65 year old male, was transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center Hospital in critical but stable condition with multiple fractures.
The bus was carrying 34 Lacrosse players and 3 coaches from St. Michaels College in Burlington, VT. Four students suffered very minor injuries which were treated at the scene. The players and their coaches were transported to the Clifton Park- Halfmoon Volunteer Firehouse by school buses to remove them from the scene and out of the inclement weather. The sole occupant of the van was uninjured.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 87 between exits 9 and 10 are closed indefinitely and the accident is under investigation. Officials are looking into all facets of the accident and the weather was rainy and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.
